I just bought a 2003 SC430 with run flat tires. Since I don't like the ride and need to drive the car sometimes in the winter on an emergency basis, I bought a spare tire kit from lexus-parts.com for around $600 and did the change over myself-takes about an hour to do.

The Lexus SC300 is generally applauded as tasteful, although not a dropdead new design. However, the SC430 has met with some very adverse criticism from both public and professionals, and this is not a good start for anything that pretends to be a "classic".

The SC430 set JD Power initial quality records, with less than half the industry average of problems. However, any car that new with that kind of mileage I think is probably not a good idea. If it was a '96 SC400 with 115K sure, another 40-70k would be no problem.

Lexus still hasn't learned the lesson that you don't increase handling by forcing the tire to do more work than it should. You design the suspension and balance the car to corner flat. But, like I said, the SC430 is a work of art and you should have just as much fun driving and enjoying it with less expense using V rated rubber.

Talk to Mary Margaret McGowan at Westside Lexus, she is the best sales person I have ever dealt with: 281-584-2236. She took me on lots of SC430 test drives before I settled for an LS 430. I loved that little car but, for the same money..... The run flats ride more harshly than the Dunlops, IMHO.
